This year we’re delighted to be supporting our very own Martin Scott who is running the 2022 TCS London Marathon. Martin is taking on the challenge of running the world famous London Marathon on Sunday 2nd October 2022 and aiming to raise funds for North East based children’s charity the Children’s Heart Unit Fund, known as CHUF.
Martin knows just what it takes to complete a marathon, having run the TCS London Marathon an unbelievable 4 times previously. Collingwood are proud to support Martin in his 5th, and what he says will be his last, Marathon as he strives to reach his charity goal of £750.
Martin’s day job sees him overseeing and handling motoring claims for Collingwood Business Solutions, but in his spare time Martin is an avid runner and member of the North East based Blyth Running Club. Previously Martin has run in 4 marathons, however this year is running and fundraising! CHUF, the charity Martin is support, is a one that close to Martin as they have supported his daughter at Newcastle’s Freeman Hospital.
Martin informed us “I’m running the 2022 TCS London Marathon for CHUF. This amazing charity is close to my heart because my daughter was diagnosed with a congenital heart condition and although she hasn’t required any treatment / surgery to date, she is regularly reviewed at The Freeman Hospital by Dr Crossland and his team. CHUF are also the charity that my employer (Collingwood Business Solutions) have chosen to support this year so as I had a marathon place anyway, it was a no brainer for me to use the opportunity to raise some much needed funds.”
Who Are The Children’s Heart Unit Fund (CHUF)?
Children’s Heart Unit Fund support children and families who receive treatment for cardiac problems. Each year they support 300 children who are admitted and 1,000 children returning for outpatient appointments. They support primarily in the Freeman hospital in the North East of England but have been expanding their reach to 6 other district general hospitals in the Northern region.
“CHUF’s vision is to support pioneering services that will positively impact heart families, inspire hope and enable Heart Heroes to reach their full potential.”
Funds raised for the charity go towards equipment, facilities, aftercare, salaries and research for the Children’s’ heart unit. Along with providing holistic care for children while allowing them to develop their skills the same as a healthy child normally would.
